Description

Price is for a pair, contact me if you’d like to buy a couple pairs (to work out a lower price per pair). I can take PayPal and most major credit cards. I have shipping set to a flat rate of $3.49, based off what I know it cost to ship them. This is the bare minimum for shipping, anyone outside the USA see below.

If you are an international customer, there will be an additional fee to make up the cost of shipping. Soon I’ll fix this to reflect the cost of shipping to your specific country automatically, without the need for this 2nd step. From my experience, shipping to Tokyo is about $13 and Poland is roughly $10. The further away from North Carolina, the higher the cost

There is a little bit of controversy in the vintage components community over the brand on any “blue molded” capacitor, some say Ajax and others say Mallory. I have heard it argued both ways and due to that, I am giving this tidbit of information to you, the buyer (the full picture with 0 deceit intended)! If anyone has access to a Mallory or Ajax sale catalog from the 1960s that shows these capacitors and/or their part numbers (P/N), please get in contact with me and you can end the debate! Also know that if you see these with Fender, Packard Bell, etc. on the labels, those are just relabeled for use in that company’s product. Now in my lot you will find these part numbers for sale: MCI 805, MCI 730 and MCI 750, all of which are 0.056 uF and 200V with a 10% tolerance.

These Ajax blue molded tested impressively well across all of the measurements! Sub 9% capacitance tolerance accuracy for all capacitors in this group, most under 5%. The Q-Rating and ESR measurements both look strong and consistent! These capacitors had very low drift, roughly 5% or less drift during testing.  These are some of the best testing used capacitors that I have seen thus far, this is why I picked these for use in this ad! These tested more consistently across the group than my Sprague Black Beauties and Sprague Bumblebees in ESR, QF, and IR! Capacitance barely changes between 120Hz and 1kHz (on one of the caps it doesn’t change at all!), this shows strong performances for a variety of circuit operational frequencies (ESR shows similar 120Hz vs. 1kHz strength). Tested on 8/24/18

Insulation Resistance is taken for each capacitor, all are within the expected IR value from manufacturer tables, such as from Kemet and Sprague IR vs. Capacitance tables. Minimal drift after initial charging approaches steady state and thus low leakage (250V/(225×10^6) = 1.111 uA). Where one microamp (uA) is a millionth of one amp.

The Uni-T UT511 Pro Insulation Tester was used to acquire these values, with accuracy rated at 3% for this meter. Insulation Resistance is a measurement of the dielectric impedance to DC voltage, this is why some older insulation tester are called Dielectric Testers. Drift was monitored throughout  testing and was only 10% of measured IR values, after 30 seconds this was below 5% (i.e. 250M ohms -> 12.5M max drift). These are extremely strong IR testing numbers for used capacitors and very consistent across the group.

The Ajax (or Mallory) blue molded capacitors are extremely popular capacitors for use in the early to mid ’60’s by companies like Fender, Magnatone and Packard Bell! You can find many sellers with these available for $20+ each (used) with almost zero information on their actual performance measurements in things like ESR, IR and QF. Then you have those using the GM328 based transistor tester to get a leakage value, what a joke! Below you will find true performance numbers on the actual capacitors available to buy with measurement devices like the Extech 380193 and UNI-T UT511.

Caps were also tone tested with my custom BillM Fender Blues Jr using a Celestion G12-H and Schecter Tempest Custom!

Shipping and Related:

Current Shipping Speed: 1 to 3 days
Cost for US Customers: $3.49 S/H
International Shipping Rate:
$11.49 S/H

For international, I took the average of the costs to ship to 5 countries throughout the world (Tokoyo, Japan, Poland and the UK). This is the easiest thing to do, even though it will cost me money half the time.

Guarantee/Return Information:

For customers inside the USA, I do 60 days for NOS items and 30 days for re-certified used itemsReturn shipping will be paid by customer.

For international buyers I do 30 days on both NOS and re-certified used items. Return shipping must be paid by the customer.

This warranty does not include you applying too much voltage for the rating of the capacitor and thus blowing it out. If you return a capacitor that is now reading open or is short circuited, you will not get a refund. The warranty covers normal usage over the period of time listed or if my performance measurements are off for a high end capacitor, like the MiniWatt caps.
