The first part of my Sansui AU-517/717 restore guide, from recapping to finding those pesky shorted diodes. Not to mention how daunting it is just to remove and then rewire all the PCB’s! Here I hope to help shed some light on the subject.
I want to introduce the latest release of vintage parts from Hallman Labs, the ultra-rare MiniWatt Mullard/Philips Mustard capacitor. I’ve never before seen these capacitors prior to my acquisition of a large lot of Mullard/Philips capacitors, both NOS and used. When I began to sort through this pristine lot of capacitors, my jaw dropped […]
I decided to go ahead and publish what I had ready in a blog post until it is ready for its own page. The AA-51 is what is holding me up on publishing my findings in the BlackGate™ Article! Some of the requirements for calibration aren’t easy and I’m having issues with getting the unit […]
It is easy to miss a new site page being added and this being such an important page I wanted to make everyone aware of it who wants to know. You can find the vintage store at the header with the other sections or directly at this link: https://hallmanlabs.com/vintage-parts-store/ Thanks for checking out […]
Update: 8/3/18 – Master Parts Sheet #1 is now completed and I can continue to post remaining ads on Ebay. Some of the best lots are still to come so keep an eye out if interested! I know I haven’t posted in a good bit, but rest assured I am working on multiple projects. […]
Don’t see this very often, even in classes they didn’t have one of these that had cracked the wax. First two pictures are with a 50mm lens. I noticed the wax had broken in a circle around the end and if I could pull the end right off, the solder was already broken and […]
Update 6/2/18: I completed the discrete op-amp modification after I got the replacement diodes. You need to replace Diodes 11, 12, 13, & 14 with 16V Zener diodes. If you fail to do this, your op-amps will be getting +18 and -18V (36V total). This is a pretty high voltage to use on op-amps, these […]
Update – May 15, 2018: I have almost finished restoring the bottom of the unit (where most of the components are) and expect to have it working in the next week or less! Update – May 12, 2018: Here is the Schematic with the parts labeled, this way you can easily see where you are […]
After weeks/months of trying to get my Cornell Dubilier BF-50 cap analyzer to show what is expected for a good cap vs. a known bad cap, I reached out to Cornell Dubilier. Well Cornell Dubilier didn’t have any more information to offer me besides what I already knew from the BF-50 owner’s and service manuals. […]
